However, German champions Bayern are weighing up whether to make a €40 million approach to bring the former Wolfsburg man back to the Bundesliga.

But Pep Guardiola is equally determined to take him to the Etihad Stadium, with City preparing a much-improved offer in order to finally convince the Gunners board into a sale.
