It is advisable we follow the food guide pyramid, so that we can be able to know the amount of carbohydrate, protein, vitamin and lipid & sterol to consume.

1. Carbohydrate.
These require 5% of our daily meal. Most of the food consume in Africa consist mainly on carbohydrate.
In food science, the term carbohydrates often means any food that is particularly rich in starch (such as cereals bread and pasta). it is advisable that our carbohydrate consumption should not exceed 5% percent in order to avoid this disease called diabetes mellitus (excess sugar in blood). We need carbohydrate in our daily meal because they help provide us with energy, but we also need to control the intake of our carbohydrate.
Carbohydrate (sugar and starch), even if other links of the chain of life fails, our food we give us all the carbohydrates we need. Since this is mainly what we bring home from the market, they are not needed in a food supplement programmed.
2. Protein.
They are essential in our diet for growth and repair our tissue and can be obtained from food such as the meat, fish, eggs, milk and legumes. And those require 15% of our daily meal. we should be concerned of the amount taken daily to avoid problems to our healths. Excess of protein in the body can lead or cause cardiovascular diseases (health disease) which are hypertension, stroke arthritis etc. it is advisable to eat more of fish than meat or eggs because they are high in cholesterol which can cause health disease.
The bodies cannot store proteins, so we need a continuous supply from diet. When the body receive protein, it uses only what it need at that moment and convert the rest into fuel to be used as energy

3. Vitamin.
It is essential for the body immune system, this is a defense mechanism of the cell. These are found in fruits and vegetable. 30% is required in our daily meal. The immune system is build with various vitamins to fight against infection in the body.
Vitamins perform a myriad of function in the body and are vital to life itself. They are directly involved in such life - sustaining activities as enzymes.

4. Lipid and Sterols.
Lipid and sterols are part of the essential fatty acid family. Our food supply should be rich in them. But with today's advance technology our food is robbed of these important nutrients and this put us at a risk in many way. They are part of the structure of the hormones made by our endocrine gland. Lipid and Sterol is also part of the cell structure, every cell has a membrane surrounding it that has a layer of these fatty acids within.
